  • Recent form has given major momentum
  • Newcastle clash could prove decisive

Brighton & Hove Albion have placed themselves firmly in the race for a top-six Premier League finish heading into the final weeks of the season.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side have surged into the top six conversation after a strong recent run of results. The Seagulls have all the momentum heading into a crucial stage of the campaign.

With rivals dropping points in recent weeks, the end-of-season fixtures should be manageable. However, they will have to maintain this form if they would like to play in Europe next season.

Brighton’s Strong Record Against Final Opponents Could Boost Top-Six Hopes

Brighton can take confidence from their recent record against the four sides they still have to face in the Premier League.

Newcastle United, Wolves, Leeds United and Manchester United are the Seagulls’ remaining fixtures this season.

Hurzeler’s side have already beaten Newcastle once this season and boast a strong recent record against the Magpies, with three wins and two draws from their last five meetings, while Paul Merson is backing this one to end in a draw.

The record against Wolves, on the other hand, is neutral with two wins, two draws and one loss. However, the West Midlands-outfit have already been relegated and don’t have much to fight.

Leeds United are on a similar page, with the Seagulls enjoying two wins and three draws against the Whites, while the Reds Devils have lost three of their last five games against Brighton.

Recent Form Giving Brighton Major Momentum

Hurzeler’s men have scored 11 goals in their last five league matches, accounting for nearly a quarter of their total Premier League goals this season.

Several players have stepped up during the club’s recent strong run of form. Danny Welbeck has continued to lead the line effectively with 13 goals in the Premier League.

The English striker, keeping his focus on his own game amid ongoing England call up debate, has scored nearly a quarter of his Premier League goals this season across Brighton’s last five matches and currently ranks as the league’s fifth highest scorer.

European Rivals Continue to Drop Points

Brighton’s push for European football has also been helped by inconsistent form from several of their rivals.

Bournemouth drew two winnable clashes in their last five games, ending the run with only nine points during a crucial stage of the season.

Chelsea have lost all of their last five games. Likewise, the chaos continues at Stamford Bridge, as Liam Rosenior was sacked last month.

Brentford also gave in to pressure, drawing four of their last five. They also lost against Manchester United and are yet to face Man City and Liverpool.

To sum up, the Seagulls control their own fate with four games to go. If they continue their form, a return to European football could become a realistic possibility before the final match against United.
