  • Brighton still in race for European qualification
  • Favourable fixtures boost chances of top finish
  • Rivals face tougher run-in schedules

Brighton’s 3–1 defeat to Newcastle could have derailed their European ambitions but the reality is far more encouraging. With three games remaining, European football is still firmly within reach.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side sit eighth on 50 points, and the form table suggests they are the most in-form teams in the division. Six wins from their last nine matches has propelled them into contention, and crucially, their run-in is favourable compared to their direct rivals.

The race is incredibly tight. Just five points separate sixth-placed Bournemouth (52 points) and 12th-placed Sunderland (47 points), meaning the margin for error is minimal. However, Brighton’s fixtures give them a clear opportunity to take control.

Brighton’s Position in the European Race

They begin with Wolves at home, which is a fixture that strongly favours Brighton. Historically, they have dominated this matchup, winning 10 of the 25 Premier League meetings and losing just four. Wolves have not beaten Brighton since 2021 and arrive already relegated, having struggled for consistency all season.

While recent meetings at the Amex have produced draws, Brighton’s overall record suggests this is a must-win. Wolves’ current form under head coach Edwards, with just five wins in 26 games should boost the Seagulls’ confidence heading into the game.

Next comes a trip to Elland Road to face Leeds United. Again, Brighton hold the advantage historically, with 12 wins in 19 meetings across all competitions. The reverse fixture ended in a convincing 3–0 win for Brighton, and with Leeds all but safe, the pressure dynamic favours the visitors.

That leaves a final-day clash with Manchester United. It’s a tougher test, but far from unwinnable. Brighton have beaten United in recent meetings, including a 2–1 win at Old Trafford in the FA Cup and a late victory at the Amex last season. Even a draw in that fixture could prove decisive.

Brighton’s European Chances: Fixture Comparison With Rivals

When compared to their rivals, Brighton’s European chances become even stronger.

Brentford, currently above them, face Manchester City away and Liverpool at Anfield in two of their final three matches. Historically, those are fixtures they have struggled in, with limited success against both sides.

Bournemouth’s schedule is slightly more balanced, but still includes a meeting with Manchester City, a fixture they have lost 18 times in 19 attempts.

In contrast, Brighton arguably have the most winnable run-in of the three. Six points from their next two games would put them in a commanding position heading into the final day. Given their recent form and the quality within the squad, that target is achievable.

What Brighton Need to Do

The key question is consistency. Brighton have shown throughout the season that they can compete with top sides but lapses like the defeat to Newcastle have prevented them from fully capitalising on strong periods.

If they can maintain their recent level, European qualification is certainly possible.

For a club that secured Premier League survival against Manchester United eight years ago, this represents another significant step forward. The expectations have changed and so have Brighton’s standing within the league.

Now, with three games to define their season, the opportunity is clear. Europe is there to be taken.
