Brighton boss Dario Vidosic admitted his side “threw away two points” after Albion were pegged back late in their 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

Albion looked on course for a Women’s Super League victory on Saturday after Jelena Cankovic’s first-half goal.

However, Lea Schuller struck deep into stoppage time to rescue a point for United. Likewise, manager Vidosic was disappointed with his side’s performance in the second half.

The result was especially frustrating as Brighton had put themselves in a strong position against one of the league’s strong sides.

Vidosic Reacts to Brighton’s Late Setback

Speaking after the game, Vidosic admitted that his side could’ve done better in the latter half to seal the win.

The former Australia international felt that Brighton weren’t able to maintain the same level entering the second half.

“It’s disappointing, and I’m quite frustrated, especially by the second-half performance. It feels a bit like we have thrown away two points rather than United taking it away from us”, Vidosic told the media.

Brighton had half the shots in the second half (2) compared to the first (4). They also managed zero shots on target in the second-half and missed one big chance.

Brighton Failed to Replicate First-Half Performance

Brighton had taken the lead through Cankovic, whose goal came from the team’s textbook tactics. Vidosic was happy to see the preparation pay off in the first-half.

However, despite a higher xG (0.67) than United’s (0.41) in the second half, Brighton struggled to replicate the results from the first 45.

“In the first half we were the better team. We scored a good goal from our press which was something we had been working on and had a couple of other half chances where we should have done better”, Vidosic added.

He continued: “In the second half when we calmed things down and passed the ball we created a really good chance which we weren’t able to put away and after that I’d describe it as quite an immature performance by us.”

Brighton Must Learn Quickly Before Arsenal Test

Against United, the Seagulls showed that they can create problems against strong opponents. However, the important piece they lack is finishing their performances on a good note.

Arsenal will be another big test mid-week as the Gunners are the only title rivals to Man City in the WSL this season.

Brighton can give Renee Sleger’s women a run for their money if their pressing game functions well. Likewise, they will also have to see their performance till the end, if they want to win on Wednesday.
