At a glance
- Brighton have been linked with Hearts striker Claudio Braga
- The 26-year-old has scored 14 Scottish Premiership goals this season
- His finishing numbers suggest there may be genuine recruitment logic behind the interest
Brighton have been linked with a move for Hearts striker Claudio Braga, and the numbers behind his season suggest why Albion may be keeping an eye on him.
The 26-year-old has been one of the standout strikers in the Scottish Premiership after joining Hearts from Aalesunds last summer.
Braga has scored 14 goals this season and assisted three times in the current Scottish top-flight season. The Portuguese striker is the third-highest goalscorer in the league.
Braga’s contributions have helped the Hearts stay in the title race with the side ranking first in Group A. This has led to multiple clubs taking notice, and Brighton are no exception.
Brighton-linked Claudio Braga Has Strong Finishing Numbers
The obvious attraction is Braga’s goal return. With 14 goals and an xG of 14.19, the Portuguese striker is scoring as many goals as he should.
The striker isn’t over-performing, but that is a good sign of consistency. Much of xG over-performance is due to a run that is unlikely to continue.
The striker also has an xGOT of 18.08, suggesting that he is not only getting good chances but also testing goalkeepers with his finishing.
Braga’s ability to not just convert good chances but also constantly test the goalkeepers can be key to Brighton’s attack.

Braga’s All-Round Game May Appeal to Brighton
Braga isn’t just a goalscorer, but he also contributes creatively. The striker has recorded six assists across all competitions through the season, with seven big chances created.
Overall, he’s created 45 chances in the Scottish Premiership, one of the highest for a striker in the league. Braga also has 227 touches in the opposition box, highlighting his presence in the penalty area.
With 45 defensive contributions and 30 tackles, the striker isn’t lazy when it comes to pressing. Despite being dispossessed 46 times this season, Braga’s defensive contributions make him a useful asset.
This is especially true under Fabian Hurzeler, who likes to press high when possible and force the play wide.
The Premier League Step-Up Remains The Major Question
However, despite his numbers, the bigger question that remains is the difference between the Premier League and the Scottish Premiership.
His 14 league goals are impressive, but Brighton would have to judge if his physical profile and off-the-ball work can survive against Premier League defenders.
At 26, Braga isn’t an early development signing, and his physique will only decline. Unlike younger players who can adapt despite the difference, it will be trickier for the Portuguese striker.
However, his price offers an interesting opportunity. Reports suggest Hearts are ready to sell for £5m, which makes him a low-risk investment.
Braga’s season doesn’t look like a lucky scoring streak, and his xG and xGOT back his abilities. However, if Brighton actually make the move and Braga survives the Premier League is a different story.
