  • Supporters can use trains, buses and matchday travel options

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Amex Stadium has become one of the Premier League’s most recognisable modern grounds, but visiting it for the first time can still require some planning.

Whether fans are travelling from Brighton, Sussex, London or further away, due to the Stadium’s Falmer location, transport, tickets, and arrival times are all worth sorting before heading to the ground.

The American Express Stadium, simply called the Amex Stadium, has been Brighton’s home since 2011. Albion previously played away at the Goldstone Ground and later spent time at Withdean Stadium before moving into their permanent home.

Since then, Amex has hosted Premier League football, European nights and some of the biggest moments in the club’s recent history.

Where is The Amex Stadium?

The Amex Stadium is located in Falmer, just outside central Brighton. The ground sits close to the University of Sussex and the University of Brighton’s Falmer campus.

Its official address is Village Way, Brighton, BN1 9BL. Despite not being in the city centre, it is well-connected by public transport.

Falmer station is next to the stadium concourse, which makes it the easiest way to access the ground. Supporters travelling from the centre can get a train in around 10 minutes. Likewise, fans travelling from Lewes also have a direct route to the area.

Getting to The Amex Stadium by Train, Bus and Coach

Train travel is usually the easiest option for many match-going supporters. Fans living in Brighton and Lewes have the simplest access, but allowing extra time before and after matches is a necessity on matchdays.

Buses are another option. The 25 service from Brighton is the main route serving the Falmer area. The 28 and 29 routes can also be used from Brighton or Lewes.

Albion also operate matchday travel arrangements. The club have partnered with Seagull Travel to provide free matchday coach travel from multiple Sussex pick-up points.

However, pre-booking is required for access to this option. Littlehampton, Angmering, Worthing, Lancing, Shoreham, Southwick, Portslade, Hove and the Amex are the pick-up points listed by the club.

Tickets and Entry at The Amex

Supporters are advised to buy Brighton tickets only through the club’s official channels. Albion have warned that buying tickets from external sites may lead to refusal of entry or ejection.

Fans using mobile tickets should also download them to their digital wallet before leaving for the game. This helps avoid issues at the turnstiles when the mobile signal is busy.

Club advisory also asks fans to bring ID, as ad-hoc checks can be carried out to make sure the ticket belongs to the person using it.

Bags larger than A4 size are not allowed into the stadium and must be deposited at a bag drop facility outside the South East entrance. The charge to deposit bags is £7.50.

Food, Drink and The Fan Zone

The Amex has several food and drink options inside and around the stadium. The Heineken Fan Zone at The Terrace is one of the main matchday areas.

Sussex food kitchens at The Terrace, including BITES by Steven Edwards, Lost Boys Chicken, Zen and Melts, have been introduced by the club.

Food and drinks can be ordered through the Brighton & Hove Albion app, online or through ordering points inside the venue.

The fan zone also offers entertainment on matchday with screens showing sport, music, live bands, DJ sets and occasional special guests.

However, opening times vary by fixture. Hence, supporters should check the club’s matchday guide before travelling.

A Short History of the Amex Stadium

The Amex officially opened in July 2011 with Brighton facing Tottenham in a friendly. The stadium was designed with expansion in mind, and its capacity has increased over the years.

Currently, the ground has more than 31,000 seats. For Albion fans, the venue is linked with the club’s rise from the lower leagues to Premier League regulars.

Brighton shared the Goldstone Ground with Gillingham before leaving it in the 1990s. Then multiple years at Withdean Stadium followed before a move to Falmer.

Matchday Tips for First-Time Visitors

The main advice for first-time visitors is to plan travel early. The stadium is easy to reach by train, but post-match queues at the station can be busy.

Arriving early also gives supporters time to visit the different areas of the venue before kick-off. Fans should download the mobile tickets in advance to cut waiting times.

Avoid bringing large bags where possible, or it can easily eat into your time at the Amex. Despite being a modern stadium, its Falmer location adds extra travel to the venue.

It’s always best to give yourself extra time before and after the game. The Amex remains one of the most distinct stadiums in the United Kingdom and will keep serving as the home to Brighton for years to come.
