- RB Leipzig want to keep Brighton star Brajan Gruda beyond this season
- Brighton are unlikely to accept a permanent transfer after paying €31.5 million
- Gruda has impressed in Germany with 3 goals and 3 assists since January
Brighton may have expected Brajan Gruda’s loan spell in Germany to be a short term step in his development but the early signs suggest RB Leipzig already want far more.
Reports from Sport Bild claim the Bundesliga side are actively searching for a way to keep the talented attacker beyond the summer after an encouraging few months back in his homeland. While a permanent transfer is believed to be out of reach at this stage, Leipzig are understood to be exploring creative alternatives including the possibility of another loan agreement with Albion.
Brajan Gruda Transfer Twist Emerges After Bright Start at Leipzig
For Brighton supporters, it is another reminder of just how highly rated Gruda remains across Europe despite a stop-start first season on the south coast.
The 21-year-old arrived from Mainz in 2024 in a deal worth around €31.5 million, carrying the reputation of one of Germany’s most exciting young forwards. Opportunities under Fabian Hurzeler were difficult to guarantee consistently this season though and the decision to send him to Leipzig in January was viewed internally as a chance to sharpen his edge with regular first-team football at the top level.
That gamble appears to be paying off.
Since joining Leipzig, Gruda has produced three goals and three assists while showing flashes of the fearless creativity that first attracted Brighton scouts. His direct running, quick feet and confidence in tight spaces have quickly made an impression in the Bundesliga and there is now a growing feeling in Germany that his best form is still to come.

Brighton Hold Strong Position Over Gruda Future
Leipzig’s interest also says plenty about Brighton’s long term planning. Albion were never likely to sanction a cut-price exit for a player they invested so heavily in only a year ago and the club still view Gruda as a major talent for the future.
Any talks over extending his stay in Germany would almost certainly need to suit Brighton’s wider development plans first. Fabian Hurzeler admitted earlier this year that the winger needed consistent minutes and Leipzig have provided exactly that platform.
RB Leipzig are pushing to keep Brajan Gruda after his impressive loan spell but Brighton will not sanction a permanent transfer.
Yet with Leipzig pushing to keep him and his confidence clearly growing, the young German suddenly looks far closer to fulfilling his huge potential. Brighton fans may not have seen the best of him just yet but the signs are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
