Bazoumana Toure is rapidly emerging as one of Europe’s most exciting young wide players, with Brighton & Hove Albion among the clubs monitoring his progress ahead of a potential summer move.

Reports from Florian Plettenberg suggest Brighton are exploring a deal for the Hoffenheim winger, who has also attracted interest from Liverpool. The 20-year-old is valued at around £34 million, reflecting his rapid rise and growing reputation across Europe.

But who exactly is Toure, and why are Brighton so keen?

Breakthrough Bundesliga impact

Toure has made a strong impression in the Bundesliga this season, featuring in 30 matches and starting 29 of them. He has registered five goals and nine assists, underlining his growing end product in the final third.

Beyond goals and assists, his underlying numbers stand out. He has created 45 chances, completed 39 successful crosses, and ranks in the top 9% of Bundesliga wingers for crossing accuracy at 33.6%. He has also completed 48 successful dribbles, highlighting his ability to beat defenders consistently in wide areas.

Crucially, he is heavily involved in attacking phases, recording 131 touches in the opposition box, a strong indicator of how often he gets into dangerous positions.

Why Brighton are watching closely

Toure’s profile fits the modern Premier League mould. He is a left-footed winger who primarily operates on the left side, although he can also play on the right or even as a wing-back if required. His game is built around pace, direct running and constant attacking aggression.

He has made 62 defensive contributions, alongside 34 tackles and 127 recoveries, showing he is far from a one-dimensional attacker. He also ranks highly for possession wins in the final third, with 21 high turnovers this season. That work rate is a key reason Brighton are interested.

Fabian Hurzeler has built a system based on aggressive pressing, transition attacks and quick ball recovery. Toure’s profile aligns closely with that approach. Rather than slowing play down, he thrives in chaos. He carries the ball at speed, beats his man in one-v-one situations and delivers early crosses from wide areas.

From Africa to the Bundesliga

Toure’s journey began at ASEC Mimosas, one of Ivory Coast’s most successful academies, before earning promotion to the first team in 2022. He then moved to Sweden with Hammarby IF in 2024, where he scored eight goals in 23 appearances.

His performances earned him a move to Hoffenheim in 2025 for a fee in the region of £14 million plus bonuses.

Since arriving in Germany, he has continued to develop, earning a place in the Ivory Coast national team and scoring a dramatic 90th-minute winner against Gabon during AFCON qualification. He has also been included in Ivory Coast’s squad for the upcoming World Cup this summer.

A perfect Brighton-type signing?

Everything about Toure’s profile points towards a Brighton-style signing. He is young, tactically flexible, technically strong and still developing physically. He also fits the club’s recruitment model of identifying high-upside talent before their market value spikes.

His explosive style would add a different dimension to Brighton’s attack, particularly in transition-heavy games where pace and directness are crucial.

At £34 million, he would represent a significant investment. But for a player already producing in one of Europe’s top leagues at just 20 years old, Brighton may see him as exactly the kind of long-term attacking piece their system is built around.
