- Brighton have won three of the last five meetings against Manchester United
- Fabian Hurzeler has already beaten United three times
- Sunday’s clash could decide Brighton’s European fate
Brighton & Hove Albion play their final Premier League game of the 2025/26 season this Sunday as they take on Manchester United at the Amex Stadium.
Fabian Hurzeler’s side know victory would guarantee European qualification following last weekend’s frustrating 1-0 defeat to Leeds United. Brighton, however, head into the clash with a strong recent record against United, winning six of their last eight Premier League meetings.
Ahead of Sunday’s showdown, Read Brighton takes a look back at the last five meetings across all competitions between the two sides.
Brighton 0-2 Manchester United – Premier League (May 2024)
The earliest meeting in this run came on the final day of the 2023/24 season as Roberto De Zerbi took charge of Brighton for the final time.
For long periods, Brighton controlled possession and created the better openings. Joao Pedro saw one effort cleared off the line before Adam Lallana had another blocked moments later. Manchester United eventually punished Brighton late on.
Diogo Dalot broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute before Rasmus Hojlund sealed a 2-0 victory in the closing stages. The result condemned Brighton to an 11th-place finish while Erik ten Hag’s side narrowly missed out on Europe despite the win.
Brighton 2-1 Manchester United – Premier League (August 2024)
Fabian Hurzeler’s first home game as Brighton boss quickly became one of the standout moments of the early season.
Danny Welbeck opened the scoring against his former club after Harry Maguire failed to deal with Joao Pedro’s cross. Amad Diallo equalised for United just after half-time, but Brighton kept pushing forward.
The decisive moment arrived deep into stoppage time. Substitute Simon Adingra delivered an excellent cross from a recycled corner and Joao Pedro powered home a dramatic header in the 95th minute to hand Hurzeler his first Amex victory.
Manchester United 1-3 Brighton – Premier League (January 2025)
Brighton produced one of their best away displays of the campaign at Old Trafford in January 2025.
Yankuba Minteh needed just five minutes to fire Brighton ahead before Bruno Fernandes equalised from the penalty spot. The visitors remained aggressive throughout and regained the lead on the hour mark when Kaoru Mitoma finished from Minteh’s cross.
Georginio Rutter then capitalised on a major Andre Onana mistake to make it 3-1 and secure Brighton’s third consecutive Premier League win at Old Trafford. The result piled more pressure on Ruben Amorim and highlighted Brighton’s growing confidence in this fixture.

Manchester United 4-2 Brighton – Premier League (October 2025)
United finally responded emphatically earlier this season with a chaotic 4-2 victory at Old Trafford. Matheus Cunha and Casemiro fired the hosts into a two-goal lead before Bryan Mbeumo added a third shortly after the break. Brighton created chances throughout but were repeatedly punished for sloppy mistakes in possession.
Danny Welbeck pulled one back with a superb free-kick before Charalampos Kostoulas scored in stoppage time to briefly threaten a comeback. Mbeumo, however, sealed the points in the 96th minute. Despite the defeat, Brighton’s late response showed the resilience that has defined much of their season under Hurzeler.
Manchester United 1-2 Brighton – FA Cup (January 2026)
The most recent meeting came in the FA Cup earlier this year, where Brighton claimed their first-ever FA Cup victory over Manchester United.
Rutter opened the scoring early before Welbeck doubled Brighton’s advantage with a clinical finish against his former side. United pushed hard in the second half and eventually pulled one back through Benjamin Sesko.
However, a red card for Shea Lacey killed their momentum and Brighton held on to secure a memorable win at Old Trafford.
It continued Brighton’s impressive recent run in this fixture and sets up another fascinating meeting on the final day of the season.
