  • Aston Villa’s Europa League celebrations could hand Albion a huge advantage
  • Nottingham Forest and Liverpool results may yet send Brighton into the Champions League

Champions League football remains within touching distance for Brighton and Hove Albion ahead of a dramatic final-day showdown against Manchester United at the Amex Stadium.

It may require a perfect storm of results elsewhere but Albion fans still have every reason to believe. Football has delivered stranger finales than this and Fabian Hurzeler’s side have already shown they can rise to the biggest moments.

Brighton sit seventh in the Premier League table and know victory against Manchester United is essential. From there attention will turn to events at the City Ground and the Etihad Stadium.

Why Brighton still have genuine Champions League hope

Aston Villa’s 3-0 Europa League final triumph against Freiburg has added another fascinating twist to the race for Europe.

The top five in the Premier League secure Champions League qualification but Villa’s European success means a sixth-place finish could also become enough if Unai Emery’s side end the campaign in fifth.

That scenario suddenly puts Brighton right back in the conversation.

Liverpool must beat Brentford at Anfield and hope Villa lose away to Manchester City. On paper that hardly feels impossible.

Villa finally ended their long trophy wait in midweek and emotional celebrations often leave a mark. The physical and mental comedown after such a huge night could prove costly against a Manchester City side still looking to finish the season strongly after missing out on the Premier League title to Arsenal.

Nottingham Forest can still hand Brighton a huge boost

Brighton also need Bournemouth to stumble at Nottingham Forest.

And while the Cherries have impressed under Andoni Iraola this season the task awaiting them is far from straightforward.

Forest have turned the City Ground into one of the toughest venues in the division and arrive full of confidence. Vítor Pereira’s side have frustrated plenty of top teams this season with their organisation intensity and counter-attacking threat.

A Bournemouth defeat is absolutely possible and Albion supporters will cling to that hope right until the final whistle.

Liverpool could play a key role in Brighton’s dream

Liverpool also have plenty riding on their final match against Brentford.

After an inconsistent campaign Arne Slot’s side will desperately want to finish on a high in front of a packed Anfield crowd. The pressure and expectation on Liverpool should work in Brighton’s favour as they push to secure the win they need.

If Liverpool do their job and Manchester City overcome Villa then the door swings wide open for Albion.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side deserve their shot

Whatever happens on the final day Brighton have once again shown remarkable resilience throughout the season.

Hurzeler has guided his side through injuries setbacks and difficult moments while keeping alive the possibility of another unforgettable European adventure.

The Albion boss believes his players deserve the opportunity.

He said: “We can achieve it if we stick to our approach through the whole season. Good preparation good togetherness.

“I think this team deserves it. They went through a lot of highs and lows but they always stayed together and found solutions against adversity.

“I’m proud that the fans can experience something special. The fans support us every week and it is our responsibility to make them proud.”

One final push for Brighton

The equation is simple for Brighton. Beat Manchester United and hope the pressure tells elsewhere.

It remains a long-shot but it is far from impossible.

And if results fall the right way Albion fans could witness one of the most extraordinary final days in the club’s history with Champions League football heading to the Amex Stadium.
