- Brighton youngster opens up on England long-list call
- Thomas Tuchel recognition boosts confidence for next season
- Seagulls star determined to deliver full Premier League campaign
Brighton midfielder Jack Hinshelwood admits his inclusion in Thomas Tuchel’s provisional England World Cup squad gave him a major confidence boost despite missing out on the final selection.
The Seagulls academy graduate was named in Tuchel’s extended 55-man long-list alongside Brighton team-mate Danny Welbeck before the England manager reduced his squad to 26 players.
Although Hinshelwood did not make the final group, the 20-year-old says the recognition alone has increased his motivation ahead of next season.
Hinshelwood encouraged by England recognition
Hinshelwood revealed he was pleased to know his performances for Brighton are being noticed by England’s coaching staff.
Speaking about his inclusion in the long-list, Hinshelwood said:
“I haven’t heard from him but I was included in the long-list, which was nice.
“It was a nice recognition for my hard work and I think that has given me a bit of motivation now to know that they see what I’m doing.”

Brighton remains the main priority
Despite the excitement surrounding his England recognition, Hinshelwood insists his main focus is still producing a complete season with Brighton.
The midfielder missed more than two months of the campaign with an ankle injury suffered against AFC Bournemouth before returning strongly during the closing weeks of the season.
Discussing his goals for the upcoming campaign, Hinshelwood added:
“I focus on Brighton and having a good full season for Brighton, because I’m still yet to do that.
“So I really want to start pre-season well and continue what I’ve done this season and put that into a full season.”

England squad decision adds extra motivation
Part of Hinshelwood’s growing reputation comes from his versatility and football intelligence.
Last summer he featured as an inverted left-back for England’s Under-21 side during their European Championship triumph in Slovakia.
His ability to operate in several roles has made him highly regarded within England’s setup and the latest England squad decision has only strengthened his determination to continue progressing under Fabian Hurzeler.
